BLUE GILL
Also known as: Bream, brim, sunfish, perch and sun perch.
Will spend a lot of time in the cervices of the pond forging for bugs.
Noted for their craving of insect and mosquito larvae. Will eat small fry and snails as well.
Bluegill will spawn from late May into September.
When young they eat algae and when food supply is short they revert to eating algae as an adult as well.
They are a schooling fish, but can be alone.
Do not catch bluegill in the wild and bring them home. It is illegal and they may also introduce disease and parasites into your pond.
